Webinar - Physical to Digital – The New Frontier in Play - 19th November 9pm
The toy industry is dynamic and evolves alongside worldwide trends. One of these trends is the surge in the use of smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles by children. This has transformed the whole concept of traditional ‘play’ and sparked innovations for new technologies that facilitate the shift from the physical to the digital world.
Leading toy companies have embraced technologies that create a digital extension of the physical world, offering children a wider and more immersive play experience.
This online session will cover these new trends and present case studies on the journey that toy companies have embarked on to complement the traditional physical play with interactions in the new digital world:
- – Have they been successful? What was the main driver?
- – Is digital play complementary to physical play?
- – Is digitalisation a ‘threat’ to physical play? or is it an opportunity?
- – How are children reacting and embracing these new trends? Are parents aware?
Hear from experts in the field:
- – Sam Coates, Senior Innovation Director LEGO Creative Play Lab, the LEGO Group. Sam and his team specialise in making prototypes which re-invent how kids play with LEGO bricks. The team helped create play functions for Ninjago Spinners, The Hidden Side mixed reality experience and the digital/physical integrated play of LEGO Super Mario. Sam joined the LEGO Group in summer 2016, before that, he spent 20 years making video games for Sony Playstation’s first party development group, Worldwide Studios.
- – Johannes Gruell, Global Segment Marketing Manager for Smart Products Authentication, NXP Semiconductors. Johannes is currently responsible for “Global Segment Marketing for Smart Products Authentication”, focusing on the consumable & accessory, gaming and medical markets.
