May 5, 2017: Malaysia expands their list of toy safety standards to match international standards
The Malaysian government has made amendments to the Consumer Protection (Safety Standards for Toys) 2009 with the inclusion of several enhanced standards governing flammability, chemical toys, phthalate esters, and mechanical and physical properties.
The new standards will be effective by January 2018 and is widely seen as an integration of international standards to the local manufacturing sector. Malaysian authorities have reiterated that they do not see the amendments as a barrier for foreign businesses in the toy manufacturing sector.
